2010 Reading List

The year is not over yet, but I'm "closing" my reading list for the year for the following reasons:

1. I may start re-reading a looooong series that will eat up significant amounts of time just to read the seven volumes in the series;
2. I need to begin reading more non-fiction and if I feel the need to share the title with anyone, it's probably going to need its own post.  Titles like The City of God by St. Augustine; or the sermons of Jonathan Edwards; and
3. I need to begin studying for the GRE just in case I decide to start a PhD program at some point in the next 10 years. I'm presently considering the PhD in Technical Communication and Rhetoric offered completely online via Texas Tech University.  For info, PhD in TCR 

So ... following is my reading list so-far this year.  As you can tell, I've found some authors for whom I've dedicated my reading through their entire series; or at least those that are available on Kindle.  Finally, as with the 2009 reading list, this list is presented in reverse order.  The most recent book I've read to-date is Kathy Reichs's latest: Spider Bones, a really good book about recovering the remains of those who have fought in wars since WW II.

As I linked the titles to the Amazon web site, I noticed that there really aren't very many different authors listed here.  Kathy Reichs (13 titles); Deborah Crombie (10 titles); P.T. Deutermann (8 titles); Deanna Raybourn (3 titles); Elizabeth George (3 titles) and all the rest are one each.  With the exception of Deanna Raybourn's books (which are Victorian mysteries), the other four authors are excellent suspense/detective story writers.  Deborah Crombie and Elizabeth George are similar in that they both write about a male/female detective team in England.  Kathy Reichs contributes forensic anthropology to the suspense/detective genre; and P.T. Deutermann writes excellent post-military suspense stories.

Thanks to Amazon for providing an automatic search that provides a link to the titles.  You can easily look up any titles that might interest you.  Deutermann is probably the only author on the list who writes for both male and female readers, besides Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt and The Archer's Tale).
